Other than selling the latex and rubber sheets, rubber lumps are now becoming an option for farmers to sell to factories. This is because the production process of the rubber lump is easy with low cast. It can also save money, time and labors.

Let's see the difference between a rubber lump and a rubber dung.

A rubber lump is the latex Which has been added with some chemical to solidify.

A rubber dung is the left-over rubber in the latex Collecting cup. After the tapping and collecting processes, there will be some latex left over at the button of the cup, which would later be solidified and become the rubber dung.

A good rubber lump would have a cup - shape, clean, beautiful color, no dust nor dirt and no smell. the weight is about 80-500g

Methods of making the rubber lump

First method: Making rubber lumps with the Tiger Brand Diluted acid- coagulated

The Tiger Brand acid, the black bottle and the plastic battle, can both be used to make rubber sheets and lumps.

Making rubber lumps with the Tiger Brand acid would require to mix the acid with some water. This would be more economical

Steps for mixing the acid and use it making for rubber lumps

1. Prepare 3 liters of clean water (or 3 kg.) and slowly pour 1 bottle of the acid into the water. Stir and mix well.

2. put the mixture into a battle which has been punctured with small holes. This is to be used to drip into the latex cups.

3. Add 2-3 drops of the mixture into a latex cup.

4. Use a spoon to stir. The latex will solidify within 2-3 minute.

1 bottle of the Tiger Brand acid can be used for up to 1,200 rubber trees.

Removing the rubber dung stripes on the rubber tree tapping surface and cleaning the latex collecting cup. After that, do rubber tapping as normal for the whole area. Once the latex has stopped dripping, add 2-3 drops the prepared acid into a cup. The amount of acid is depending the amount of latex collected in the cup. Stir well and the latex will start to solidify within 2-3 minutes.

Leave the latex in the cup and wait to be collected the next day when beginning to tap the tree again.

This method will allow latex to quickly solidify within 1 hour, which is very suitable for the rainy area or rainy during season.

This method is very easy. Even new farmers can also do it because there is the standard procedure available for farmers.

A good rubber lump should be the latex being solidify in the cup using acid or by itself.

The important characteristics of a good rubber lump are clean, no dirt, no sand, no stone, no wood piece, has natural color, weight 80-500g. with Dry Rubber Content of 60%.

The rubber in the market should not be older than 4 days with moisture of about 40 %.

If farmers can produce rubber lumps as recommended, they can be sold at the better price as the quality would affect the block rubber for export. Buyers would categorize the quality of the rubber lumps by quality. The higher quality, the higher price.

Making rubber lumps with the formic acid

10 cooking spoons of the concentrated formic acid mix with 3 liters of clean water. Pour the mixture into a bottle. Add about 15-20 cc. of mixture into a latex cup. Stir well.

Buying and selling the rubber lumps

Buyers would estimate the price from the percentage the moisture in the lump. Normally the rubber from trees which has been tapped twice and has been air dry for 3 days would have the average moisture of 45% and Dry Rubber Content of 55%. The reference price would be the same ca for the RSS 3 standard.
